Blood Sugar & The Weight Loss Connection

Sep 15, 2023 | Energy, Hormones, Nutrition, Weight Management, Wellness

Many people these days consuming a standard american diet – too much processed foods, refined foods, high sugar and high starch foods is a recipe for disaster when it comes to balancing blood sugar levels. On average people are eating 95% more sugar than 200 years ago!

When glucose (aka blood sugar) hits your bloodstream your pancreas releases a hormone called insulin to help transfer glucose out of your blood and into cells. Think of insulin like a little ferry boat, transfering glucose to where it needs to be. It has three main drop off points, your liver cells, your muscle cells and your fat cells. Since many people these days are overconsuming foods (partially sugar and starches), it leaves many people with dangerously high glucose levels which can lead to serious issues, including weight gain.

And when you’re not exerting energy to use up glucose, all that excess glucose gets stored as fat around your stomach, liver, and cirulating fat know as triglycerdies. Often people rush to lower their fat intake when they get told their trylycerides are high, when infact it’s often the excess sugar and starches causing the issues. On top of this, the by product of glucose metabolism contribute to chronic inflammation levels that yes, good guess, further perpetuate weight gain and your inability to lose weight.
