Magnesium deficiency is one of the most common deficiencies (along with iron) that I see in clinic. Magnesium is involved in over 300 enzyme reactions in the human body, it’s important for cardiovascular health, blood sugar balance, hormonal health, reducing sugar cravings, supporting ATP energy production, relaxing muscles, supporting sleep, reducing restless legs, it can help to reduce anxiety and SO much more!<\/p>\n

Today on the blog Triona from Green Goddess<\/a> has shared with us an easy way to get more magnesium, this is by using a transdermal cream, lotion or body butter.\u00a0In the evening she applies a topical magnesium and has noticed an improvement in her sleep and she is sure it\u2019s helping lessen the ache in her arm too.<\/p>\n

DIY Healing Magnesium Body Butter<\/strong><\/p>\n

1\/2 cup shea butter
1\/2 cup coconut oil
1\/4 cup magnesium oil (buy this\u00a0
online here<\/a>\u00a0or at the pharmacy)
1 tbsp\u00a0
jojoba oil<\/a>
20 \u2013 25 drops\u00a0
lavender essential oil<\/a><\/p>\n

Method<\/strong><\/p>\n

Create a double broiler with a bowl over a pan of water, keep this on warm. Place the shea butter, coconut oil, and jojoba oil in the bowl and melt them while stirring to combine. Don\u2019t let it over heat.<\/p>\n

Once combined remove from heat and add the lavender essential oil, stir again. Refrigerate for about an hour (or 20-30 mins in the freezer) until the mixture is soft but not set.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s now time to add the magnesium oil, use a hand mixer to whip whilst adding the oil a little at a time, you want to end up with a light creamy butter. If it doesn\u2019t whip put it back in the fridge again and try again in 5-10 mins.<\/p>\n

Store in an airtight jar. If you have sore muscles rub on some body butter. If you have aches and pains a massage with body butter will feel lovely. Apply each night or as needed. Always use clean hands so as not to transfer bacteria to the jar and don\u2019t apply on broken skin.<\/p>\n
