How Morning Sunlight Transforms Your Health & Happiness Journey

Jul 1, 2024 | Energy, Hormones, Wellness

Morning sunlight isn’t just about brightening up your day—it’s a powerhouse of benefits!

Within the first couple of hours after you wake it’s important to expose your eyes to natural sunlight, not just through a window but by getting outdoors and exposing your eyes to sunlight directly, the longer you can do this the better, but even just 10-15 minutes is a great place to start.

Here are some of the benefits to morning sunlight:

  1. Mood Enhancement: Exposure to morning sunlight triggers the release of serotonin, the ‘feel-good’ hormone, helping to lift your spirits and start the day on a positive note.

  2. Sleep Regulation: Sunlight exposure in the morning helps to regulate your body’s internal clock, promoting better sleep at night by syncing your circadian rhythm. It does this because it releases serotonin which is a precursor to melatonin, a hormone we need in order to fall asleep and stay asleep.

  3. Vitamin D Boost: Those early rays are your body’s natural source of vitamin D, essential for bone health, immune function, and overall well-being. Here in NZ the sunlight in the morning doesn’t offer us a significant amount of vitamin D, but anything is better than nothing, as vitamin D is a common deficiency I see with my clients in clinic.

So, rise and shine, soak up that sunshine, and let nature work its magic!
